An Introduction to Social Justice Pedagogy

Social justice pedagogy refers to an educational approach which promotes equity, inclusivity, and fairness within the educational system. It is rooted in the belief that education should not only focus on academic achievement but also address issues of social inequality and injustice. Social justice pedagogy aims to create learning environments that empower students from diverse backgrounds, challenge systemic barriers, and foster a sense of social responsibility.

In this course, we’ll:

  • understand the growing need for social justice pedagogies to address issues of social inequity and injustice and empower all students 
  • look at practical techniques which encourage students to critically analyse, question and disrupt societal norms, structures and power dynamics; integrating diverse perspectives & voices 
  • explore a five-step social justice lesson framework that empowers students to see, feel, think, reflect and act 

This is a 6 hour course.
